Tricia Hunter

Project Manager Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway

Tricia Hunter joined the DYW D&G team in July 2017 and is delighted at the opportunity given where she wishes to bring her specialist professional experience, passion and enthusiasm to the role.

Tricia’s career spans more than 27+ years within vocational training and recruitment across Dumfries and Galloway region and further afield.

She was a founder and Director of the award winning company Minerva People till 2016 and a qualified Chartered Manager and fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.  Having been involved in developing the young workforce of Dumfries and Galloway since 1990 Tricia has worked closely with all – young people, employers, educators and various stakeholders.

Having set-up, run and grown her own business for 17 years she understands the commitment required by employers within a rural area to offering meaningful work placements, supporting the training and development of people, including staff, to enhance career progression for all.

Tricia has developed herself vocationally over the years, undertaken qualifications but also gained a great amount of wide-ranging experience through work and volunteering eg held various positions on many committees and boards locally, regionally and nationally and was President of Girl Guiding Dumfriesshire for 12 years.

She has a real passion for motivating and developing people and welcomes the challenges and opportunities this role brings.  She aims to help Dumfries and Galloway employers to showcase the numerous career paths and occupations that our diverse businesses could offer and to inspire and encourage our young people to take them up

Senga Greenwood

Developing the Young Workforce

Born and bred in Dumfries and Galloway, Senga started working life as a PE teacher at Annan and Lockerbie Academies. Senga has always had a passion for sport and working with young people!  She then emigrated to Australia, left teaching and spent over 20 years working in the commercial world of International hotel sales and marketing. Senga brings with her a strength in those business disciplines.

Senga has recently returned to live in D & G with her family, and is loving re-exploring this wonderful, diverse region.

When the opportunity came up to work on the DYW Programme, it was perceived as the ‘best of the both worlds’ : working through Employers and Industry to help young people in their careers and world of work. “We have a commited, spirited team here within DYW and I very much looking forward to setting up mutually beneficial relationships with Education

Justin Thomas

Developing the Young Workforce

Justin Thomas joined our DYW service with over 18 years varied experience in the private sector working in Glasgow, London, Brighton and then a further 6 years service in the public sector within the DWP as well as working with a Social Enterprise charity project in Manchester setting up employment, work experience, community and volunteer projects with industry and so has a unique perspective and understanding of various sectors.

“I am very proud that our DG Chamber DYW project has a ‘business led’ approach.  Companies in all sectors (many for the first time)  have been asked by us simply  – “What do you want to do?”  This has given industries the opportunity to really address the acknowledged issue of its future workforce in a way that suits them.  And this is what DYW stands for – Developing the Young Workforce.

It’s incredibly important that our regions young people feel confident and supported when facing their futures.  They need to understand that if they don’t want to or can’t leave the region to pursue an educational career after school, than that is absolutely fantastic!  There are plenty of superb businesses and good careers to be had right here – they can have a good life, a good career, prospects and a good wage,  without feeling they need to move away.  And this is the key.  If we as businesses reach out to our young people, allow them to work with us and discover what the region can offer.  It’s been genuinely fantastic putting together this project, meeting businesses, working on CSR projects and helping to start working with young people … and this is just the start.  As we move forward, I am excited as what lies ahead.  Why not give us a call and get involved?”
