The UK Government has an ongoing public campaign to ensure businesses are ready and adapting to the introduction of the UK’s new points-based immigration system as free movement has ended.

The key messages are:

• The way businesses hire from the EU is changing. From 1 January 2021, businesses need to register as a licensed sponsor to hire eligible people from outside the UK.
• Free movement has ended, and the new points-based immigration system has introduced job, salary and language requirements that will change the way businesses hire from the EU.
• The new system aims to treat EU and non-EU citizens equally and transform the way in which employers recruit from outside the UK.
• Businesses need a sponsor licence to hire most eligible employees from outside the UK.
